  1. I think picking up on the "adaptive re-use" idea in the reading is interesting, and can really relate to some of the ideas that you have. This idea of "sport" and "fitness" is something that has great relevance historically in looking at the way that the Greeks and Romans viewed education in terms of athletics. I think that the idea of education is something you could possibly look at, not as an educational facility, but more as a way to educate the public. This would also be applicable to the historical ties in terms of large arenas and sports settings in parallel to this fitness-centered education.

  2. Rachelle,

I think its very interesting to see that you and I can have quite distinct views about a similar user: the spectator/fan. While you believe that spectator culture has replaced human activeness, requiring a new type of recreation center, I am focusing on enhancing the spectators experiance and connection to place. I don't think that attending a sporting event somehow replaced participating in a sporting event...the more troubling scenerio is that watching HD tv at home for free vs. paying $100 for bad seats, bad traffic, and gimmicks has caused alot of people to lose a direct connection between action and spectation.
